In the 1960s, 70s and 80s, high level golf championships were played on the various golf courses of the Basque Coast (Biarritz, Chantaco, Chiberta, La Nivelle) under different formats and names : Omnium International de la Côte Basque, Open de la Côte Basque, Open Timex. . .

Great golfers took part in these championships, namely Tommy Aaron, Ian Baker-Finch, Manuel and Severiano Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Tony Jacklin, Bernhard Langer and of course Jean Garaïalde, Bernard Pascassio and many top French professionals and amateurs.

In 1970, 1971 and 1972, Chantaco, Biarritz and La Nivelle clubs hosted the French Open, testimony to the  Basque sporting culture and the attractiveness of the courses.

Carrying on this prestigious legacy and with the wish to recreate a festive competitive golf event, we are launching the ARKEA OMNIUM INTERNATIONAL SENIOR DE LA COTE BASQUE wich will be played on July, 1st and 2nd 2022.
